The request for documentation was neverending. Every day a new piece of information was requested. And even though mortgage loan statements were provided, Guild required a 3-way phone call with me and the bank. A complete waste of time for me. Changes in amount needed to close occurred -- and last minute. We didn't know if our loan was actually going to get approved until one day prior to closing, which is very stressful. There appeared to be no trust between the lender and us. We were required to pay off credit cards, which is fine and we could have shown Guild that these were paid by us, but Guild had to pay these debts (and to date those payments have not been posted to our various accounts). Being required to escrow was not something we wanted to do. We haven't escrowed on our last two mortgages. Why was this one different? Our credit scores and assets show that we pay our bills on time every time and have the funds to cover any surprise bills. If I had known that the proces was going to be like this, I would have gone with my credit union for the mortgage as I have in the past, but took a recommendation from my realtor to use Guild.
