Joey Cummings

I am a native of Newark, New Jersey however Evans/Augusta is my home where I reside with my husband and three boys, Steven, Justice, and Bleu (the dog).  In my free time I enjoy shopping or simply having quiet time.  

I earned a BA degree from Paine College in 1996.  In 2004 I obtained a dual degree Masters in Health Administration and a Masters in Business Administration.  At the start of my Professional career, I worked in the mental health field in the areas of substance abuse and children’s behavioral health.  Later in life I became dual careered.  I served at Augusta University as an Adjunct Professor in the Kinesiology Department teaching Zumba, and I worked as a community activist by working for one of the local Chambers of Commerce.  Advocating and understanding the needs in our community is what I had become more passionate about.  When offered the opportunity to make dreams come true with home ownership, I jumped at the opportunity starting my mortgage career.  Because I valued health and fitness and enjoyed educating young adults, I continued my role as an Adjunct Professor for eight years until I retired in December 2020.  As a passionate Loan Officer, I consider myself a specialist with first time home buyers.  Because of my Psychology background, I am often able to decipher and understand the fear and anxiety associated with a large purchase.  I use this insight to tailor my services to better meet the needs of each specific individual.  Because I am an educator by nature, I discuss with my customers financial literacy topics during my consultations that center around the following:  establishing healthy credit habits, favorable debt to income ratio percentages, establishing a budget and a plan for building a strong savings account.  Some community/business-related accomplishments include the following:  

Raised over $15,700 for the local and State Alzheimer’s Association.  

Completed the Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia’s Future Leaders Program. 

Served on the board of 1st East Central Georgia Partners in Home Ownership. 

Active member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Aiken Augusta Region.
